NexSAN SATABeast and SATABeastXI

As I mentioned in the previous blog, NexSAN Technologies has two solutions that support 42 drives in 4U.

The first being the NexSAN SATABeast, up to 42TB in a single chassis with the current 1TB SATA Drives. Choice of single or dual controller. Dual function Fibre Channel and iSCSI connectivity with wire-speed performance. Flexible, scalable and completely OS independent, SATABeast easily supports a broad range of storage infrastructures.

NexSAN has also introduced the SATABeast Xi . Almost identical to that of the SATAbeast other than that the NexSAN GUI and Fremont panel are different.

NexSAN Technologies

Perhaps you are looking to purchase a significant capacity of storage? Now with the 1TB SATA drives and larger Fibre and SAS and we know that larger capacity units are on the horizon what size SAN storage should you purchase?

Here is a short synopsis of it's capabilities:

• AutoMAID automatically reduces power consumption and heat generation on idle drives.
• Trade-off between response times and power savings are user configurable.
• AutoMAID behavior happens automatically and transparently to host – no software changes required
• AutoMAID is analogous to power saving modes on laptops
• Typical configuration settings: - 30% savings – after 5 minutes of idle time, drives are programmed to unload heads and slow down to 4000 RPM. Very fast recovery time.- 52% savings – after 5 minutes of idle time, drives are programmed to spin down. Recovery time on the order of 30 seconds.

NexSAN recently introduced a new solution known as the DATABeast, in essence a highly managed solution that can grow to several Petabytes in a single rack. This is a scalable SATA/SAS solution in a high density, low profile form factor and I will discuss this solution in a future blog.
